John G. Courtney – Chief Executive
John is highly ranked in the Top 100 UK Entrepreneurs list by City AM and is winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award from techSPARK.
He has been a Board Director himself for over 40 years and first started placing Non-Executive Directors over 25 years ago. John founded and ran six of his own businesses including a Management Consultancy for 10 years, a Corporate Finance offering for 10 years and a mid-sized Digital Agency for another 10 years.
He is also a very experienced business Mentor, with Microsoft Ventures then Microsoft Accelerator (now Microsoft Scale-Up), HRH Prince Andrew’s Pitch@Palace, SETsquared (scale-ups spinning out of the Universities of Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Surrey and Southampton) and Entrepreneurial Spark (now NatWest Accelerator). He is also on the Advisory Board for the Oracle Start-up Cloud Accelerator (OSCA).
Having trained as a Strategy Consultant, John has run strategy training in the UK, Holland and West Indies and advised over 100 scale-ups, family businesses and SME’s in strategy. He has also been conference speaker at Tech For Britain, Digital Marketing, LikeMinds for Entrepreneurs and others.
John is Chairman, NED or Board Advisor to several scale-up and SME businesses in both London and Bristol.
John is a lifelong cricket lover, has captained Gloucestershire Seniors and is a proud Ashes winner with the full England Seniors side. He has recently taken over as Chairman of The Lord’s Taverners (West), a national charity focused on helping disabled and disadvantaged children through sport.
Kathryn Dawson, MBA FCIM – Board Advisor
Kath has been a Board Director for over 15 years for a management consultancy, a mid-sized digital agency and her own consultancy. She is now also a Fellow and Board member for the Chartered Institute of Marketing where she is also the Digital Ambassador. Kath is currently a Board advisor to five early stage businesses.
A digital marketing strategy specialist, Kath has a grounding in digital strategy, content marketing, SEO, social media, conversion rate optimisation and paid search.
Kath has also worked in computer software and financial services as well as the Universities of Exeter and Wolverhampton.
Kath is a Trustee of Mencap, the learning disabilities charity, and is also a regular volunteer for them.
Damian has been running his own companies for the last 21 years in a variety of sectors, from the marine industry, shipping (import and export & shipping supplies), leisure, catering, IT, recycling, environmental consultancy and producer compliance.
Best known for his work in the recycling and producer compliance world, Damian authored and ran one of the UK’s original WEEE compliance schemes and later worked for one of the UK’s largest multi-regime schemes, whilst running his consultancy.
Damian also helped spearhead the implementation of the UK’s first battery recycling plant based in Scotland. He is a leading voice in battery recycling and compliance.
A non-exec director for several companies ranging from international imports and exports through to childcare and IT, Damian has a deep knowledge base and an extensive list of contacts across many industries.
Steven has worked with many businesses over the past 40 years. He has helped organizations from their initial start-up, working with organizations seeking funding for expansion, helping businesses work through their growing pains and working in major organisations troubleshooting areas of concern.
Steven is now a professional Business Advisor working with organisations all over the United Kingdom helping individuals and businesses realise their true potential and then provide support to help them build their business to the next level.
Steven is an author and his book, “So You Want To Be A Leader” is available on the Amazon platform.
In the last four years Gerry has been involved with cloud technology and its introduction into SME’s and Accounting practices. He was sales director for a fast-growing cloud integration company selling consulting and cloud ecosystems around the Xero accounting system.
Prior to joining Boardroom Advisors Gerry was the Managing Director of Cognitive Research, the company was focused on three things, – media research into the changing face of accounting practices, a value-added reseller of cloud-based software and a business consultant involved business acquisitions, interim assignments, GDPR and the funding.
He was a partner in a successful City based software and consulting firm for over twelve years and created one of the world’s first Operational Risk solutions combining value at risk modelling techniques with traditional subjective methods. He raised $1m in an earn out deal worth $16m for his operational risk system solution.

Founded and grown businesses over 15 years, including a multi-award-winning mobile technology and marketing company that delivered services and licensed platform to global brands and service providers including Microsoft, P&G and Google.
As an advisor she has a wide experience to help businesses develop strong, measurable, business strategies for growth and implement robust operational systems and practices.
Anne has led multiple funding rounds, raising £millions for the growth of her own business and those of her clients.
Prior to starting her own business, Denise spent over 35 years in Commercial Banking, as a Director responsible for business development, successfully coaching sales teams.
During that time, Denise felt very privileged to work with many exceptional business leaders across all business sectors. Helping entrepreneurs scale-up and grow.
She is passionate about helping really great businesses to grow, working with / in the business in a strategic role. Helping entrepreneurs and the board deal with sometimes overwhelming demands and focus on the important issues.

In the last 30 years, Ian has been focussed on expanding product sales/services into new and existing markets, both in the UK and abroad. Building his previous company from a start-up to an annual turnover of £10m, this included selling the business through MBO.
Throughout, they successfully completed several funding rounds, both privately and Government supported, which supported their sales expansion projections and goals.
His focus was always on sales growth, through accurate identification of the customer product mix, which was then applied to existing & new business/markets/models. Through this assessment, proper planning, logistic, resource and financial projections were accurately applied, no matter the size of the operation, these skill sets were successfully applied to year on year growth.
Charles is a business leader, consultant and interim manager, with extensive board-level experience gained over a successful twenty-five-year career in the Global IT Industries and in working with innovative SMEs and Start-up companies.
He works with businesses to apply lateral thinking and open new paths to growth through transformation, turnaround, scale-up strategies and the application of new technologies to improve performance and growth.
